YouTube Video Ranking Tips for 2018

A lot of people would agree with me when I say:

It’s VERY difficult to rank videos in YouTube’s search engine.

But what if I told you it doesn’t have to be?

Well it turns out that it’s about to start getting easy again because of some tricks I’ve found recently. Stick around and let me show you what I do to get my YouTube videos ranking in 2018.

A video I recently ranked

YouTube SEO used to be so easy! I ranked videos with very little effort back in 2014 when all of this was new to me. All it took was good on-site optimization and maybe some free YouTube views from YTMonster.

I was in heaven.

Then the 301 view method came about. Everyone hated it, except for the ones doing it of course.

The method was very simple. You upload your video as unlisted, use a dodgy refresh bot to get your views to 301 and then make your video public.

More often than not your video was ranked in the top three results for your keyword almost instantly.

But none of that will work today. That’s why we’re here to solve this problem, at least until the next update.

Don’t do what doesn’t work!

We now know that traditional methods don’t work as well as they used to and that’s okay. We live and we learn.

But here’s the thing:

We need to evolve with YouTube because it’s going to keep changing. In fact it’s already getting tougher year by year.

You can’t just send some high retention views and rank. No, it just doesn’t work that way anymore.

Just promise me that you won’t be trying the 301 view method after reading this. You’ll just be wasting your time.

Let’s get back on topic:

Before you upload your video

Please for the love of god:

Make sure your video is at least 720p.

YouTube will not want to promote a low quality video. Hell, let’s make it 1080p, it’s 2018.

If you’re having trouble with rendering a high quality video I recommend using the Lagorith Lossless Video Codec.

It’s going to speed up your render times and make the output file super small so you can upload it in a fraction of the time it would usually take.

Pretty nifty right?

When you finish rendering:

I like to rename the video file to my main keyword.

I’m not 100% sure if this affects it’s ranking potential but I do it every time. Call me crazy, I think it’s worth 2 seconds of my day.

Now you’re almost ready to start uploading, but not before we create an eye catching thumbnail.

With the most recent update, I strongly believe that click-through-rate is crucial for ranking and staying ranked. It’s becoming more and more like Google search.

If people are clicking on your video more than others, it only makes sense that your video will be bumped up to a higher position.

Right? Right.

Make a Great Video Thumbnail

So what makes a thumbnail clicky?

Listen closely:

Your thumbnail cannot be bland. Use colors that contrast with YouTube well. Don’t use white or red.

Instead you should be using yellow text, maybe even a black stroke around it.

A little like Franklin here.

Can you see how it’s very clear what it says and just clicky?

Damn, I just can’t get over how clicky that is.

YouTube Video Ranking On-Site SEO

Don’t skimp on this!

This is the most important part of this whole article.

If you F this up there isn’t any way that you’re going to rank for your desired keyword on YouTube.

You need to find other, closely related keywords to supplement your video in your title and description as well as the tags.

Because YouTube is getting smarter, but it still can’t watch video. Use the description to give YouTube crawlers some clarity and definition.

Keyword Positioning

Check this out:

The title has the main keyword at the beginning. Always try to make sure it’s at the beginning.

Notice how I have related keywords everywhere in my description?

That’s no coincidence!

You can rank for all of those terms if you follow my instructions correctly.

How cool is that?!

youtube tags seo

I never enter too many tags.

It’s just going to confuse the crawler, especially if they’re vague.

Bonus Tip!

If you want to be a little extra, you should subtitle your video if it has a voice over.

It can’t hurt and may make your video even juicier for the crawlers!

Bonus Tip 2!

Embeds are seemingly more important than I thought! I found this awesome service you can try right here on SEOClerks.

YouTube Ranking Factors

Now for the meat of the article:

What do I do next, you might ask.

The off-site SEO I say!

but WAIT, let’s not get ahead of ourselves shall we?

First let’s assess the competition.

We need to see what we’re working with ranking competition

Some of these videos have over 100,000 views. That’s a lot, but I think we can manage!

Let’s see what the average view count is, it’s just easy math.

113k + 321k + 46k + 57k + 18k = 555k.

555 / 5 = 111k views.

Now let’s get 20% of the average view count and we get 22.2k views.

Let’s round that up to an even 25,000 views, for simplicity.

That’s high retention views by the way.

This is the amount of views you’ll need to purchase from an SMM panel of your choice.

However, you’ll need a little more than just views.

Here’s the scoop:

Assuming that this is a fresh account with no subscribers.

Firstly, you need to get some views.

buy youtube views

I don’t recommend using free services or exchange sites to gain views on your video.

Find a reputable social media marketing panel that supplies high quality, high volume views.

At this point in time, I recommend YTBot.(Email them to get SUPER cheap prices! Tell them Bluify sent you!)

Update: V3 and V8 views have been reported to be best! See what works the best for you!

Don’t do anything else until the views start to come in, this is important.

Would it make sense to you if a video had more likes and comments than views? (Not unless you’re PewDiePie)

Thought so, let’s do this right!

What To Do Once The Views Start

So you gave your video some love. You have views, and keywords in your title and description.

Now you head back to your panel and order 400-800 likes for your video. These usually start within the hour.

Once that is done order 20 or so custom comments. Make them realistic, mention parts in the video. Be creative. Have some ask questions so you can reply to them, have mostly positive feedback and 1 or 2 bad ones.

For good measure, send 200-500 subscribers to your channel.

A day after you do this your video should already be in the top 20.

Awesome right?!
